Whoops I dropped the packet!
« on: May 06, 2009, 19:45 »
When I was sowing my beetroot seeds a few weeks ago I did three rows and then as I stood up I dropped the packet and there were seeds everywhere!  I picked most of them up but as they are coming through now I can see quite a few that I missed.  Does anyone know if I could transplant beetroot seedlings into another area or pot?

I guess that if you dig up a good amount of soil with it so that it isn't disturbed it should be OK.

I transplanted some of mine as a neccesity.  When I did the transplant I dug them all up with a lot of dirt and planted half.  The other half I forgot about for about an hour got distracted.  these ones that I forgot about were all wilted and haven't done so well, so I guess what I am saying is don't do what I did if you dig them up get them in quick.

With enough soil around them, they won't know that they have been moved (we won't tell them if you don't :D)...

Last year I must've dropped a beetroot seed or two as well wyandotty - because weeks later found some growing healthily in the pebbles of my greenhouse floor!

I didn't pot them on, but it showed just how willing beetroot is to grow anywhere, given the tiniest chance  :)

I have however transplanted them from pots(to bigger pots), and if you don't damage the root they'll thrive.
(Note to self from that event - beetroot doesn't need "starting"  :tongue2: )
