ok heres my way of growing em good . dont sow em till may 1st and sow a few( ten for the next 3 weeks ... this will give ya a good few cauli's without a glut .just remember that you can freeze em . cooking em is simple 14 mins for a full cauliflower in a microwave full power with a cup water in and a lid on ... not found a better way since i first done it i always styeamed it anyways ....
ok first thing is the ground has tro be great .... not good great , get a trench dig going over the plot and put loads of manure in afore winter sets in leave the ground rough the cold will sort it out . chuck some lime on the surface .10z square yard . now stay off it ..... come april get on it and rake it level and try not to walk all over it just try and stay on the one line each time you walk up and down leveling it this is so you dont over compact the soil ..... ok your seeds wil have been sown in single 3 inch cells and be going strong . plant them out deep with a good hole bury em up to the first set leaves and stand em down to really compress the soil around em ..............cauliflowers suck in nitrogen unlike any other plant and need a steady flow of it to produce good heads ( curds )
4 weeks later give em a feed of nitram . a really concentrated form of nitrogen its ammonium nitrate . well some of ya may not be able to get it so use sulphate of ammonia spread it around the plant a teaspoon per plant . the secret really is that feed em feed em feed em .and water em ... some feed every week will produce massive green leaf and this will support a good curd soon as a tennis sized curd forms you need to cover it over the first sun wil colour the curd and ur got a manky yellow job still eatable but yucky looking .. use an elastic band to hold the leaves . dont go breaking the tops over this just causes the cauliflowerr to suffer shock first thing a plant does then is bolt . its called " help thier killing me so im gonna produce seed n beat ya " so its good soil loads manure hard planting in , feed water and more feed , if ya not into feriliser use a home made liquid manure from cows muck
