If you have the space, Mange tout and Sugar snap peas are quicker to grow and prepare for cooking.

There is only one reason I would grow peas and that is to eat them uncooked. they are devine straight from the pod. I would not waste the space to use them cooked.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

Metoo, I dont grow enough to freeze, and I would have to grow a lot more to make it past the plot gate!

Sitting in the shed doorway in the sunshine eating the peas straight from the pod is one of the highlights of the summer.
That reminds me, must sort my a bench!

Daisy - I think we may be getting muddled about spacing. Do you mean to plant 3 rows 6" apart to be treated as one row of peas?  3 rows at 3" apart would probably be better with the peas sown about 2" apart along each row.

Fresh peas are wonderful.

This is what is understood to be a single row of peas and is consistent with what Salmo is saying. Do not try to repeat this at 6" spacing!!

Peas are defo worth growing and for me mange tout even more so. Last year I had 1 row of 3m and i ended up giving LOADS away as they were superb.

I wasted loads of peas last year as I didn't provide enough space or support from them, and compared to shop bough ones?!?! I will never ever have a risotto as tasty as the home grown pea and broad bean ones I make with freshly picked peas/BBs. Cannot wait already.. MmmmMmmMmmmm
