Sweetcorn Chitted But!
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:51 »
I’ve just chitted some sweet corn and will be planting in root trainers today but having read lots of posts I’m getting a bit confused do the shoots go up or down are they stems or roots. I would have gone for stems but read in a post that they put roots down first. ???

Roots first!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I tried chitting some sweetcorn, but they just went furry and didn't shoot? I put them on damp kitchen roll, with another damp layer over the top and put them in an airtight box and left them? what did I do wrong? were they possibly too wet??

Unless you'd got water sloshing around, they shouldn't have been too wet.

Possibly duff seed, mine worked a treat.

I never put a layer over the top, was it in a warm place, or like DD. says duff seeds. They sprout very quick did mine on the 24th and now they are well on their way even starting to show green shoots,I better get round to potting up  ::)
