Cucumber question
« on: April 19, 2009, 11:45 »
I'm growing cucumber for the first time - Marketmore - Outdoor varierty, as I don't have a greenhouse. When I should start sowing indoor if I want to plant outside in the first week of June.
As I've run out of space, I'm thinking of planting them in pots and use trelis to support against a wall. Is that feasible.?Do I need to worry about pollination?
How many plants would I need for a family of 3? Any other tips for a decent yield would be greatly apprecited. Thanks

sow your cucumbers now , then harden them off outdoors for about 3-4 days under cover, then should be ok to plant out ,

But don't put them outside yet !! frosts will kill 'em, Don't know about your neck of the woods but my tender stuff don't go out till June  ;)

I usually reckon on three to four weeks for cucumbers and squash.  It's probably better to be a bit late than too early.
