A fellow allotmenteer (a real veteran) gave me some peas to sow saying they were what the farmers used and had been 'treated' so mice wouldn't eat them. He also said to wash my hands after handling them. So I planted some in the ground and planted some in pots at home.

Today, mice had eaten all the peas in the ground. Thing is, what might they be treated with anyway? Could it be not too good to eat the produce at the end of the day?  Maybe I shouldn't carry on with the one's I have sown at home? (I do have another sort I am growing)

Could have been paraffin, lots swear by soaking them in this to deter mice

I suspect that they had been treated with a fungicide to stop the seed rotting. This will not get into the plant or deter mice. Washing your hands was good advice.
