« on: April 13, 2009, 18:41 »
I was a the plot the other day and one of the old timers ask me if I wanted a row of Banana Shallots.I had the ground so I said yes, i made a drill and he came do with his wolf seeder and all I had to cover the seed.
I had never heard of them or seen them until I did a google search.

They are the 'in' vegetable with chefs at the moment.  They always go on about them on  'Market Kitchen'. I'll just stick with my very ordinary shallots (which will probably taste just as good).  Regards to Sleaford, BIL lives there, gone to Quatar this weekend for the race which got cancelled due to rain. Hi, i grew them before from seed as Long red Florence, but this year i planted a few bulbs they're shooting but i think i'll get a seed head instead of the bulb dividing like ordinary shallots, any ideas, time will tell.

I have only ever tasted supermarket shallots and banana shallots - couldn't tell the difference myself!  But they look nice! :)

I fancy giving them a go only because they look easier to peel and chop.

You are right they are, but taste really just like other shallots. Look good though  :tongue2:

I wish I hadn't read this now. I've just spent £10 a month upgrading my Virgin Media to L pack so I can watch Market Kitchen  ::) :D
