Hi, if you can get some baytril injections they work much better than oral baytril. I had to do it yesterday for the first time and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. A vet should see her really as they can go down hill very fast. Nic.

Hi everyone, was it just the light or did the hens comb look purple/blue?
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)

Hi Kitkat, yes the comb looks purple to me too. Usually a sign of heart disease or poor circulation, but can also mean the hen is fighting an infection.

am on a mission tomorw , if i start cleaning the coop at 8 am an blast it with jeyes etc as i have just spoken to my farmer friend over the road an hes suggested all the cleaning out etc same as you guys . but will it be safe enough to put the girls back into tomorw night if its dry as my small shed { 5 ft long by 2 or 3 foot wide } isnt really suitable for them to stay in for a night well not 17 birds .
they can lay thier eggs in the small shed during the day that dont bother me .

Lice often flag up an existing condition, the bird is ill so can't preen and the lice get hold. Nic.

all the girls are pruning themselves , although one or two seem to be doing it to the extreme as they have lost some main wing feathers or are they meant to lose them at this time of year ??.

i really feel like i am doing something wrong with my girls as it seems to be one thing after another but at least i am learning from all this .

Those girls may be starting to go into a molt. If you can see worms in their droppings their parasite load was heavy. Depending on which wormer you use be sure to re-worm in two weeks to break the life cycle of the worms. Most wormers only kill adult worms so if there were any eggs they have to hatch before a wormer will kill them. But again it depends on which wormer you use.

Getting rid of the worms should take care of a lot of the problems that you have been having. The birds had their system drawn down so they were vunrable to all sorts of things.

Looby is using flubenvet which is active against adult worms, larvae and eggs so re-dosing should not be necessary.  I would recommend another treatment in about 3 months instead of 6 months as the land may contain eggs which they could pick up after treatment.

your poo, looby, is the same as those which Sandra was doing - started off like that and got more and more yellow and less green as she went on.
some days more solid, some days moreyellow liquid.
the vet couldn't work it out.
baytril was prescribed, but it didn't help, i'm afraid.
her stance was the same, too, with the pale comb...
it took sandra about 2 weeks from poo starting to be yellow till death.
i hope it's more happy for yours.  :(
