Any knowledge of these beans welcome as I have been given a packet from a friend.

Are you talking about the red and white barlotti beans? If so, they're very easy to grow, just like regular beans. You can either freeze the de-podded beans fresh or let them dry until brown on the vine then store them as dried beans. No special treatments other than some manure, watering and something to climb as most are climbers.

I was given a big variety of "dwarf" beans last year by a cousin who likes to experiment and has space and time to do just that.  ::)

Each small seed packet contained a handful of seed and handwritten instructions on how to grow them. The borlotto were (as has been said) easy to grow and, considering the relatively small number of seeds, cropped well.

If I had more space I would definitely put them on my list to grow again!  ;)

Roll on retirement and another half-plot!!

They say on the packet 60-65 cms but I grew these last year and they were about 6 feet in the end. I had put them on a shorter frame and had to trail them over the top bar and back down the other side. The later ones went on their own 6ft canes and had to be lopped off at the top.
