Hi all

We are now the proud owner of 4 Barnervelders, collected from a lovely couple, the lady was a Vet and she treated them all with Flubivet on the shoulder blades.  The girls are about 20 weeks old and have just started to lay the odd egg.  Is there a withdrawl period due to treatment?

Here are the girls

We are keeping them in the house tonight and letting them into the run tomorrow.  How long before we can have them loose in the garden with us?

Thought she said Flubivet but I could have it wrong.

What a dope  I've just done the sensible thing and phoned her, withdrawl for 4 days, she eats them right throught but couldn't advise that to me.  So any eggs up to Thursday are a no go and after that its ok.

I love the feather pattening and they have such a beautiful green sheen to them and are very very soft.  Had to add that cause I've never touched a hen before.

they're gorgeous!
it doesn't matter that you can't eat any eggs they lay for 4 days - most people find it hard to bring themselves to eating their first little miracles anyway!
you can take pictures of them then throw them onto the compost.
or pickle them in formaldehyde (very damien hurst)

They are gorgeous hens, lovely colour and markings.  I'm so jealous, I'd love one or two or maybe three LOL

Where did you get them from, just wondered as I'm South Yorks too :)

Good luck with them, you'll love having them, you'll worry all the time now and want more!!

There from Emma Faulkner, she advertises in Practical Poultry but shes at Mansfield Woodhouse, not the Yorkshire section but the Notts/Derbys/Leics/Midlands section.

She advertises as vacinated and wormed which is what drew me to them, and the fact that they had Barnevelders available.

Truly no room for more at present house but who knows when we move next time.

Your new little girls are just beautiful!  Oh I just can't wait to get ours next weekend!  I just can't get over how pretty they are!  Enjoy them and I really look forward to reading about their growth and new adventures!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
