Hes just brought a humungous runner bean plant home from school aunty..we'll repot it and Im hoping end of april will be kind.  Its my best chance to get him into the growing malarkey..rather than humping sand and cement about and acting the big chap now the landscaping is done  :D

Aw bless him.

Put it in a biggish pot and keep it in the cool greenhouse for as long as you can.

THE BEAN MUST LIVE !!!!!

Put a bit of fleece round it if the over night temperature drops.

What's it's name :D

I usually start my beans off in 3" pots end of april and plant out end of May.  I'm luckythat in spalding we have a horticultural place that is open to the public.  last year I went in there and asked for the price of 100 canes and I can't remember now the price, but the bloke said to Brian, there's 150 in each pack, would you mind splitting the pack, then he said oh just give us £15 for the lot, so I got 150 7ft canes for £15.

I usually use the wigwam method, but last year I stood all the canes upright, either side of the path like someone on here does, then put some black tubing over half a dozen of them making an archway and tied a couple of canes front to back.  Looked a bit messy until the beans grew up and over it.
