Handles ?
« on: March 27, 2009, 16:05 »
I need some new handles for my rake, cultivator and hoe but I can't seem to find anywhere selling them, any ideas where I should look?

Try Johnsons of Rainham near the station they might be able to help.
Thanks
Kris

Perhaps then we are lucky here in E. Lincs....the long established hardware shop in the town here which is privately owned but is a Mica group member keeps 59"x1 1/8" brush handles @£3 which all but match the handles that Wolf used to use in the old yellow wooden handle range.

They also stock 60"x1 3/8" ash shafts @£10-65 which is noted as a hay fork or muck fork handle...a bit large diameter for general tools perhaps but I have put a few in some 6" swan neck draw hoes at work which are the regular hoes we use on herbaceous border work.

Wednesday I called at local agri' engineers RH Crawford...and enquired after a 72" shaft that we were looking for...to put in an old SKJO rake that we use on the dyke banks... I came away with a 72"x 1 3/8" ash shaft for £7-24. :)

I've just replied to you srebmobs on the 'Word of Caution' thread.  I would be a very wealthy woman if I had a pound for every time someone's come in the shop and uttered those words.  We retail  short handles for rakes etc at £1.32 and longer ones at £ 2.32.  Please, if you can, use your local hardware store.

I was tempted to reply, but I think that particular subject, is best discussed over a bottle of whiskey! ;)
