A very disturbing clean of the nest boxes - advice needed.

For a couple of weeks now i have noticed that i am finding a pool of albumin (white of the egg) in the nest boxes - have not really thought that much about it. Perhaps just an aborted egg etc. Today i have found the same with a lump of tissue that looks as though it has grown. No features, solid, pink, not blooming, about the size of a small mouse. What could it be?

I thought perhaps it was an aborted chick but how could that happen? Perhaps a tumour - not usually passed though are they?

Never seen or heard anything like it - i hope someone has some ideas.

All the hens look on fine form with no indication of which one "layed" it.

Could it be a lash (think that's what its called. Seem to remember its something to do with tissue shed from the hen's reproductive tract. Can be a sign of infection or disease but sometimes just a one off with no further problems. Sounds a bit like some thing one of Rob's hens passed.

Any chance of a pic to help identification?

There's been a few lately. If you search for lash in the Hen House forum, you should find a photo of one.
