Hi all! I've got some beans to plant out soon and I read that if you plant marigolds with them it helps prevent black fly. I've bought some French marigold seeds but when I've checked the book it sugests english marigolds, ooops!

Does anyone know if these will work as well or is it just the English marigolds that work?

Ive used both
the idea is that atract hover flies that eat aphids
it dose seem to help and thay look nice

I always use english marigolds and my daughter always uses french or tagetes... I guess it is the strong smell that does the trick.

Hi, i use pot marigolds ( Calendular ) naer broad beans as they are blackfly magnets. Tagettes are good round carrots because the smell deters carrot fly. Also they flower all summer and look great.

Hi, once you've got them they self sow all over the place you never need buy another one.
