Last Year's Onion Sets

Hi  I planted spares last year in the front garden amonst the plants.  They sprouted but didn't seem to grow at all.  Anyway, I missed a few when clearing up and now they are sprouting again.  I started to pull them out but then thought - do I leave them and see how they do or are they going to be a waste of time?  Any advice greatly appreciated.

I am pretty sure they will run to seed. Quite decorative so maybe leave them anyway.
