Chitted potatoes shrivelling
« on: March 09, 2009, 07:59 »
Hello all,

New to all this, read the books but I know there is nothing like experience.

Just wondered if I should be concerned about my chitted spuds lookig a bit shrivelled and wrinkled. Should I spray with water? or are they okay? I have three types all are fine except the main crop which are Cara which look pretty shrivelled. The shoots are green/purple and about half an inch long and have been chitting since mid feb.

Thanks,

Justin

If the potatoes are sprouting they should be O.K. The spuds are putting their all into making the shoots so shrivelling is part of it.  If you spray them the water will run straight off them ;)
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!

Last year was my first year and had the same worry!! They will be fine as long as you can  see they are sprouting.... Some varieties seem to shrival more than others in my, very limited, experience!
