Can peas be started off in seed trays, or do they need root trainers?

you can start them off in anything but if you leave them too long in a tray the roots will get thoroughly mixed up. I bought some root trainers and they do work well and you can leave them in there quite a long time which can be quite useful especially with things like lettuces where you want them all to be at different stages. I kept some wild rocket in mine all winter and just planted them out last week.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
