Morning all,
I have just started a new raised bed project and have bought some Miracle Grow organic compost to fill it with. Can I assume that compost out of bags is slug free? I have the copper tape in place for any little devils that might want to make my new beds their home but don't want to buy Nemaslug if I don't have too.

I think the only way to make sure any of your soil/compost is slug free is to keep ducks - they'll eat them all with relish (well, actually, they eat them as they come - no ketchup needed.....  )

I doubt if you will have slugs in purchased compost. If you find any they will have krept in from your garden. You may have a copper strip round the top but remenber that slugs burrow and can come up from the bottom.

Thanks. I think the best idea is just to Nemaslug it just to be on the safe side.

I've had slug eggs in bought compost - if the bags are stored somewhere damp at the shop or the warehouse, they can get in through the tiniest hole.  For small pots, I usually notice and hand-squish them, but for a large container I'm afraid I throw in a handful of pellets if I know the bag is a problem.
