 my next offer is for some microwaved sunflower seeds

Seriously think I might try some out of the wild bird food mix I have, could be a winner  ;)
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Well, the York microclimate is soooooooo tropical ( ) that I have only today sown my Wilkos seeds.  They'll beat you all into a cocked hat, just letting you develop a false sense of a head start  :tongue2:
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I have one that's an inch and a half and not dead yet! It's a oldish packet of seeds maybe that's my problem.

Sheesh, it was bad enough that I had the police around 'cos the local flyboys complained ... but I just got a summons from NASSA that says if I don't cut my babies down then they'll ignore the SALT treaty and nuke my garden!!!!! bloody yanks ( except the yanks on here of course .... we know you'd only use salt to kill slugs :D ) ... looks like I may have to withdraw from the competition :'( ... good luck to those of you who are growing dwarf varieties

You never know though. I might just be that Grand National winner  :D :D.
They are coming along nicely. Had to hold them straight with guy ropes last year as canes were nowhere near big enough.

Hi, I was thinking of holding a sunflower growing contest on the allotment site where I have a plot.  I was wondering when would be a good week to measure them all?  Would you suggest the end of August or leave it until the start of September.  Wanted to be organised and put the measuring day on a poster!

Regards, Nicola

It depends where you are Nicola. Mine aren't fully grown until mid September  ;) .
