Poly Tunnel covering suppliers?
« on: January 23, 2009, 20:10 »
Hi,Could anybody out there advise on a decent(cheap) supplier of Poly tunnel covering.Ive recently been donated a large poly tunnel frame that having now erected am keen to get growing in.
Also, I have a large role of industrial plastic which to my untrained eye looks suitable for the job, the only problem being I would have to tape sections together as its width is 6ft.My frame size is 12 x 30 ft (ish).
As always any advise would be great.

I work close to a "Mr Plastic" that says they can supply just about anything. Give them a search on google. Seems to be clustered around Essex.

One of the finds under Mr Plastic was www.norfolkplastics.co.uk

First tunnels are really good, friendly advice etc, they were the only company we dealt with when we got ours that actually went out of their way to help us.

Whatever polythene you use, make sure it is uv resistant.
I wouldn't recommend taping sheets together.
Try National Polytunnels, Northern polytunnels, Fordingbridge.
I'm not sure on the prices but worth a look.
When you measure up for your sheet, measure the width from the ground, over a hoop to the ground the other side and ADD at least 4 feet or 1200mm  to this measurement, you need the extra width to fix your sheet down, either by wrapping around wooden battons or digging in.
For measuring length, I would measure from the middle of one end hoop, along the ground around the outside of the structure to the middle of the other end hoop. This should give you plenty to play with.

In fact, if you look on the Northern polytunnel site, it has a calculator thingy to work out what size sheet you would need. I wish I had seen that before my last post. :D
