hello
i am a new, really ,really new beginner. i have just bought 10 hissex (pullets) i cant get them to go in at night. any tips. should i let them stay out until they are ready even though it is cold and dark. when will they start laying. In fact any tips would be great. Thank you

Hello vina and welcome to the forums;  why not pop over to the 'Welcome to the Forums' section and post a bit about yourself - nothing personal just the basics  

Re getting your girlies to bed at night; there are lots of threads asking just that on here... the search link in the green banner at the top will come up with loads of suggestions, but mainly your chooks will need to know where home is, and they learn this by being locked inside for at least 24 hours, with food and water, before being let out.

This way they learn where it is safe and warm and (although it may take some 'training' some hens) they should put themselves to bed at night, ready for you to lock them up again, safe from the fox.

Welcome to the Hen House

As SS says best bet is to keep them in the house for a bit that way they get used to where they live
Once they get the hang of it they'll go to bed on their own just before dark

Are you feeding them layers pellets? Have they got access to poultry grit & oyster shell at all times?
Depending on their actual age they may not lay straight away but the above will make sure they have what they need to make the egg
