At this time of year we always have peanuts out for the birds. We have several squirrels who help themselves. I don't mind them having a few nuts but I object stronlgy to them digging up my shallots so they can bury the nuts gggrrrrrrrrr

You need a air rifle then you have a new hobby

They don't come in my garden too often and leave it alive even less my cat thinks they are great sport.

I couldn't do that I'm vegan so there is no way I would hurt them. I'm going to try netting over the shallots and garlic and hope that works

If you feel bad about killing tree rats, try eating them. Very tasty.

After skinning place a single white grape and some caramelised onions in the cavity, wrap in parma ham and secure, place in the bottom of a crock with plenty garlic/seasoning/boquet garni to taste etc. Cover in white port and cook in the oven.

I agree with Swing Swang.. they do taste nice. I've tasted one and it was very rich.

Pair it with pigeon and possibly rat and you have your own Vermin mixed grill!

A reminder, purplebean is a vegan so these suggestions are out of the question and totally irrelevant.

How exactly is it offensive?

She asked for advice and got it.

We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

Don't worry i'm not offended. Actually I would much rather people kill and eat their own meat than buy it all plastic wrapped at the supermarket where they can 'forget' exactly what it is they are eating.
If everyone had to kill every bit of meat they ate far less meat would be eaten.

I'm not offended I was concerned Purplebean might be, but clearly not.

She didn't ask for advice she made a statement about the problems with her Squirrels.

Anyway

Purplebean looks like you are going to have to get yourself a big cat, or a woofy dog..  :D

I have one of each, they tend to scare everything off between them..

I have had a cat from being small but haven't had one for the last 4 years. I really really really want another cat. Still trying to persuade hubby though  :(

If anyone has any good suggestions on how to do that they would be welcome  :)
