Maude got hurt
« on: December 11, 2008, 05:25 »
My chickens are in a run - normally. This afternoon I took the dogs out for a run and didnt know that Maude and her 5 babies had got out - I still have no idea how. Anyway Brodie got Maude in his mouth for about 3 seconds. I got the dogs in and went back to get the chickens back in their run. The babies are all fine, but Maude is limping. I felt her all over and there was no blood or broken skin, so I'm really really hoping that maybe she's just pulled a muscle or something.
What should I look for? Should I just keep her quiet and check on her regularly to see how she is?
I feel terrible, and she's my wee favourite

someone will be along to tell you what to do for Maude. Sorry to hear she got hurt  :(

I think you're going to have to watch her very closely as if she keeps limping then she may have done real harm. Aunt Sal etc will be along soon to tell you what to do

Hi Kiwi

I think if it were me I would keep her in a small area so that she rests it as much as possible.

Sarah that's what I did - I put her in the broody house with her babies. Later this evening she was still limping, but could walk pretty fast almost without a limp sometimes. I'm really hoping shes just pulled it a bit and it will heal. I hope shes ok.
I found the hole - the cows had pulled up part of the chicken wire that runs along their field so I've fixed it.

Sarah, she seems much better this morning  :D she's barely limping at all. She still seems not quite herself but I suppose that's only natural. But definitely a lot better, I think she's going to be ok -yeh!!

yeh, I was a little bit premature in my celebrations - she does seem okish, but is still limping around and staying very quiet ( which is good so she can heal) it's just a bit unfortunate that she has 5 big babies with her just now - but they are beginning to get a wee bit independent so that's good.
