Allotment Act, Can anyone help,
« on: December 10, 2008, 13:51 »
Hi all,

I’ve been looking where in the Allotment Act it gives the rules on keeping poultry,

How many you can keep, how much of your plot can be dedicated to your chucks etc

If anyone could give me some guidance or point me in the right direction where to find the answers it would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Don't know much legally on this but I do know that there seems to be local rules on the subject, some councils/associations do not allow poultry to be kept, others do.  Where it is allowed I believe there is a percentage limitation on space used.

the only thing i can suggest is that u talk to your local council, every one is different .

i have 24 girls in my run on my plot thats taken up half of one of my plots and the council were fine with that.
if my run is 10 metres by 6 , then i would say my plot is 10 metres by 14 metres in total .

Thanks peeps,

The story is that the local allotment officer is saying one thing and our chicken hating fascist allotment secretary (no bias there then) is saying another, he says according to the allotment act all chickens must wear a yellow star, so everyone knows they are chickens

I just want to know the facts so I know where I and other poultry keepers stand

Thanks again for your replies

It's up to your local council byelaws I think.  Our council used to say we couldn't keep chooks but someone asked to see the rule and there wasn't one so ...  :D

Think 'nazis' (at the start of the holocaust).
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
