Swiss Chard barrier
« on: February 22, 2007, 10:48 »
Over the sunny weekend we have just had I decided to dig up last years Swiss Chard, now the intersting thing I noticed was that couch grass had not invaded the area, it had created a barrier, and the end of the row where there was a gap and had gone through, has anybody elses come across this?
Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

Couch is not real fond of stiff competition underground.  Add to that the top foliage which will starve it of light.

I find that it is a case of getting your veg ahead of the couch rather than letting the couch get the upper hand.   Potatoes, cabbage and parsnip have all helped me get (nearly) on top of couch.  Same is true of bishopweed but if anyone would like some transplants of chickweed, goosegrass, creeping buttercup or convolvulus then I think I'd be able to find you some.

Nope but I've got some lovely ground elder if you want a cutting
