Hello everybody I.m a new member and also very new to growing my own veg, did a little last year but found that my peas seemed to be infested with maggots, can anyone suggest a tip on how to prevent this for this year..

Hallo from me, if you don't want to spray with MJ's nasty chemicals - grow the peas under a viromesh tent (see pics in my personal gallery in my profile bit) - this will prevent the pea moths getting to the peas to cause the maggots and you will have a perfect crop of peas.  

Peas are self-pollinating so you don't need to worry about good insects not getting in to do their business.  This method favours shorter varieties of pea which grow 40 to 60cm tall.  The pea plants seem to like the enviroment created by the viromesh and I've had great juicy guaranteed-maggot-free peas this way for three years now.  You can get viromesh from garden centres but I think its better value mail order.
