Having just plucked a chicken I have a lot of feathers to dispose of. So my Q is will they compost or should I just bin them?

I get lots of feathers in my pigeon manure and just put the lot into the soil or compost bin. I rarely see them again so obviously they're composting.

technically anything from a living thing is bio degradable as micro organisms that are on the living thing, start to eat and break it down and the waste produced is then classed as organic matter so the answer to your question is, yes it is comostable! ( why i had to go down the scientific route i dont know!) lol

Similarly, cat fur, dog hair, human hair, the contents of your vacuum cleaner bag, the fluff from your clothes dryer, egg boxes, loo roll tubes, tissues and anything else of a similar nature will add to the value of your compost heap.

if you have synthetic carpets and or clothes then you may want to consider whether you add hoover or dryer stuff
