What would you grow in a spare spot??
« on: October 07, 2008, 12:42 »
Creating our chicken run has made an obvious 8' by 3' space for another bed.  Said space will be slightly moist because chicken run roof drops off in its direction.  However, it is South facing with protection from all other sides(ie north, west and east). What would you grow in this new space???

We love the raspberries that have grown this year so could put some more of those in this space; or redcurrants/gooseberries because haven't got those.  Or maybe asparagus? Will it be too wet for that?  Or should we just erect guttering on back end of chicken run (bearing in mind digging in the fox proof skirting was a chore and a half) and OH will be very :x if I add yet another job to the endless list!  Is there any permanent fruit/veg that will thrive in a sunny but slightly damp position??

if its a large area of roof, it makes sense to put guttering on it and install a water butt. That way the soil in the plot wont get inundated when it rains, and you will be able to control the water more efficiently.
