Pepper plants....

I have a pepper plant in a pot. Will it die off eventually or is it something I leave in the pot & it will produce again next year? (sorry, not up to scratch with the proper wording of this!! )

i have never tried it but i read somewhere (probably on here) that they will produce fruit for 3 years, they will need frost protection though.

Most peppers are perennial....so bring it in for the winter, prune it by a half or so, don't overwater and by spring you should have some new shoots appearing :) Give it some feed in March and it should be fine! :)

I know you can over winter Chilli Peppers plants but thought that Sweet Pepper plants died off each year, mine have this year and they are in the greenhouse. Hopefully some other “expert” will answer this as I’m keen to know.

My sweet lipstick pepper has just had it's 3rd year! cut it back, trim the roots and repot, cut back on the watering and hopefully it will bounce back in the spring!

Thanks Biscombe, I’ll have to try it next year, my sweet pepper Ramio plants have already gone to the compost heap in the sky.

Brought mine in to, seen as we havent had a pepper off it in this first year, (it has a tennis ball sized pepper on it at the mo) I was hoping by keeping it going it may do more next year. :)

No expert    but here goes anyroad

I tried to overwinter three Friar's Hat chillies as the seeds cost a lot and the plants were looking fab but not one fruit on. I cut them back by half, as Aggie says, but they all died.  I was gutted.  Oh well I'm going to try again. I think ventilation is the important bit

I've got some Joe's Long chilies, £1.99 for 6 seeds.  Didn't spot that when I bought them.

How exactly do you cut them back please?

Literally cut all the branches off half-way down the plant.
