just been catching up on some old posts and saw sheridalls post about her dead chicks, hope she sees that you can buy above, apparently this is not suitable for turkeys and duck chicks who would overdose on medical element

Thanks for the message, I did know that you could get some and I am off out today to pick some up as I don't want it to happen to our latest 4 chicks!!!

Any idea what I should expect to pay for a bag of chick crumb with coccidiostat in it?

does all chick crumb not have it in?  I'll have to check that out when I get more chicks; for now they've grown on a bit and are on growers

No, the organic crumb doesn't have any medication in it, but we use Farmgate chick crumb and rearer.  The blue bags.  They have it in and its labelled chick crumb ACS (anti-coccidiostat)

I don't know about any other makes as we only use Farmgate.

Shame your not nearer to me, if anyone around here wants any, we only charge £6.50!!!!

The thing to remember about this disease it that it thrives in damp conditions. the damp around the water bowl, that sort of place. This summer with its rain, must have been a nightmare for many people.

There you go then Suzi, chicks sorted!!!  Farmgate also say that if using any feed with ACS in it, then you shouldn't use anything else like Coxoid, as one will cancel the other out and be utterley useless.

Just another piece of useless information!!!!

I keep my water bowls outside (chooks have 24/7 access outside) so this wouldn't be a problem I hope?

We had been using the smallholder range chick crumbs and all their food is coccidiostat free. I did manage to get some of the farmgate chick crumbs yesterday with ACS) and it was only £6.60.

Is the coccidiostat only required for chicks as I read that it is problem up to 3 weeks old. I take it I don't need to worry about the hens?

Obviously I am concerned having just lost some chicks, that could have been due to coccidiosis, would sooner be safe than sorry

Hi Sheridal, the Farmgate rearer (grower) has ACS in it too which you feed up to point of lay, but not in the layers feed as there is an egg withdrawal period for medicated feeds.

The Smallholder stuff is okay, but we found they were getting rather expensive, and we've not no problems with farmgate stuff, and BOCM deliver it free which helps!!!   :D

Last night just as we'd shut the chooks up, there was a knock on the door and it was a couple who have had some of our Amberlinks and Babcocks.  They wantd to buy a bag of feed if I had any spare, and they said that a farm shop up the road from us are selling Farmgate layer pellets at £8.50 a bag!

But they were shut and the couple were desperate, so they thought, Grannieannie will have some!!!!! lol
