Hi Janie

Plenty of time to sow Garlic.

I'm sowing mine in Mid/late October as some people reckon you get a better crop on a later planting.

What's your varieties?

Cheers

Speaking of planting garlic, my crop this year produced quite few bulblets that developed in the stems about 6 inches above the real bulbs.  (Definitely not scapes or flowers.)  These look like they ought to be able to be planted as part of next year's crop.  Anyone have any experience of this??

I planted mine in November last year cv Music and harvested in late July, they were very good, not many cloves per bulb 5-6 but quite big and lovely taste  :D   They will not like sitting in wet soil for long periods so be careful where you put them in heavy soils.

Thanks for your comments i bought Thermidrome bulbs, last year i just planted a shop bought bulb split into cloves but this year i thought i'd buy some that are specifically for planting to see if i get a better crop.  If i remember correctly last year we planted when the clocks changed so maybe do that again this year??

Most of whats left of my garlic crop is currently in the oven with some lovely lamb and mustad.

I'm waiting a bit yet, still too much chance of my clay getting waterlogged.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

my garlic didn't do that well and the ones missed when clearing the bed have started to grow again when i got back on holiday suddenly there were stalks/leaves a foot high.

Should i leave them in the ground or dig them up? or even use them
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

They will take a few seasons to get to some decent size.

IS it time to be planting garlic yet? . . . .

Following the advice of a wise old country boy I will be planting my garlic on the date of the last full moon of the year; Dec 12th.

It will probably not make a ha'porth of difference to the resultant crop, but it all adds to the mystique and enjoyment of it.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.
