Hi Mr C.

Most people feed pellets because they are easier to handle and can be easily fed in a hopper. They also create less waste because they are less likely to be redistributed around the run or coop.

Mash takes longer to eat the same amount and consequently keeps the hens occupied for longer at their favourite pastime - eating.  :)

I don't know the best ways to serve up mash. We've only ever used pellets.

Ex-batts will only have had mash.

Might be othe pros/cons but that's about all I can think of for now. :)

You needn't clip their wings. :)

they are the same product but one is ground into a powder - mash. There are no disadvantages to eaither as far as nutrition goes. Battery hens will have had mash to need weaning into layers. Mash can make a mess if they scratch or peck it out, which if dampened can easily grow moulds.

I give my girls warm mash in a morning in a big plastic dog bowl which they can't tip over!

They also get treats too.
