Courgettes finished?
« on: August 15, 2008, 21:07 »
Hi, sorry to ask probably a very silly question, but how do you know when a courgette has finished fruiting?

I have had a lovely crop from my two plants, but one seems to not be doing anything now and the other one has just produced one more fruit ,there are some very tiny ones coming but they dont seem to want to grow in to adults (some times wish i hadnt!)

Have they had their time this year?

Thanks Charlotte :)

Our courgettes are still cropping this year, are you still getting flowers? You may want to give them a liquid feed and some topdressing of manure near the base of the plant. 2 years ago I grew some in a border (boy that was a mistake) and they were still fruiting in October.

I'd suggest feeding them and leaving them to grow on, assuming that they look healthy and are still producing flowers.

I'm in the north of England and mine usually go on producing fruit until the first frosts, which kills them off.
Last year that was the first week of November.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.

I have to admit that my two courgette plants are starting to give up too, but they're in a growbag in the greenhouse, so I assumed it was the powdery mildew that was doing them in. I shall continue to feed them and see what happens then  :D

Thanks for the advice,Sunday is always my feeding day so will do that today .

They are still flowering so maybe they just need a bit of sun,so do I!

Thanks Charlotte.

You burn them, then drawn them and hang them up nine time and bury that should do it.
