Hi. I am in the process of building a coop and run for 3 rescue chickens.
I would like the coop to be at least 20 inches off the ground, to save my poor old back.
Will rescue chickens be able to manage to climb a ramp of this height and what would be the best design.
Saving  the chickens is more important than saving my back so will have coop lower if this sort of height is too much.

My neighbour has his ramp obout 4 feet in the air at about 40 degrees. Birds get up and down easy.

Well I haven't heard them moan.

Thanks. Thats good to know. Maybe climbing the ramp will be good exercise for them

our ramp is a long piece of wood (thin) with x bars if you know what i mean.. hubby made it and I didn't see it till the end - he'd spaced them too far apart for my liking.. but rather than risk a disgruntled hubby I said 'we'll see how the girls cope with it' well they cope really well so it's stayed! It's about 5' and comes down from about 4' i'd say.

Girls fly down from the house but go up on the ladder flapping their wings a little for balance but use their feet.
First attempt they made it.. i put them in it, they flew down, then went to fine first night.
