A welcome visitor, I found this little one last night so I gave it some chicken scraps seemed to like them.

With all the low flights we have from East Midlande Airport I sometimes wonder if the pilots dont think so too :evil:

I can't see the photo.

A baby hedgehog was found on our plot today, i'm so blimmin excited having never seen one up close before. OH is ringing the vet as he thinks something's wrong with its eyes, I hope it's OK, he found a decapitated baby a few weeks ago, thinks Mr Fox did it, but there hasn't been any on our site for years apparently so this is good news. Can't wait to see it later when I get home, I do believe he/she is sharing the cat's dinner at the moment (he will NOT be amused!)

Hi Mashauk look after it they are very efficient at clearing slugs.
dont know why you cannot see the photos they are put there by photobucket, and show up on my screen :?
Wow it was there when I started this post now I see its been removed by photobucket. does anyone know why this happens?

Apparently it's in my back bedroom at the moment, to keep it quiet and away from the cat. No vet within our area has agreed to see it this evening (even though I was told that by law they're supposed to look after wild animals!)

I'm going away in the morning so OH will have to call the RS or someone to see it over the weekend, poor thing must be very stressed I hope it survives.

We got someone out from a hedgehog rescue place who took a look at her, and said she'd been attacked and blinded, one eye was hanging out, but I didn't see her face until he came over, he took her away and sadly she will have to be put to sleep tomorrow :cry: We're going to make a feeding box for them that Mr Fox won't be able to get into, as there's obviously a family at the lottie, no-one has seen any there for years, so we'll do our best to protect them and feed them, poor baby I'm very upset. I've never seen one before apart from squished on roads, she was so cute, only small.

Foxes do kill hedgehogs.
They normally go for the young ones who don't have the knack of curling into a ball quickly enough.
The main predator of hedgehogs is the badger.

Luckily, I have at least two hedgehogs in the garden, along with a few frogs and newts.
They all help to keep the slug and snail population down, so are most welcome.

The hedgehog rescuer told us that only about 10% of hedgehogs diet is slugs and caterpillars, and apparently slugs carry lungworm and can kill hedgehogs!

I haven't seen a hedgehog for about 10 years !! I was sitting outside on the patio late one Saturday night, and we noticed one walking across the lawn - then it climbed the fence (I promise it's true) and went into next doors garden.
