My first chickens have laid eggs.
« on: July 21, 2008, 20:38 »
I got 2 chickens yesterday morning from a woman I know quite well who has 40 of them.
She sold me the house with run, 2 chickens and food. She will also be invaluble for advice.
Any how when she delivered all the stuff I was told they may not lay for a day or too due to being moved.

They laid an egg each today. We are so pleased with them both.
Just wanted to share the news, I have run out of people to ring.

are you poaching them boiling them or scrambleing them? The eggs not the chucks?  Your own always taste better.

I was told not to eat them until 24 hours have passed, is this right as my gran who grew up on a farm remembers collecting eggs for breakfast.
We left them anyway as my 5 year old wanted to show daddy when he came home from work. I'm sure he was amused to get 2 phone calls today at work telling him we had eggs....

I'm going to make yorkshire puddings to go with dinner tomorrow, as there are 5 of us we all get to share the first egg then.

It is so exciting. We are also starting to grow veg so I could be on here alot as I have no idea about growing.

Well done you!!

Did the girls give any clues they were gonna lay? noises? behaviour etc? Mine are too young to lay yet and just wondered if there was anything to look out for??  :?

Enjoy that Yorkshire pud!!!
