One possibly two of my hens seem to be losing a lot of feathers nad not laying, thought it was too early for moult to set in  :?  the one that is definitely loosing feathers was bad a few weeks ago and has not laid an egg since

They are all RIRxLS bought last Oct at POL.

Any ideas ?? I've checked them over for mites and lice can't see anything, would it be worth worming them again.

Feather loss causes that I can think of:

Moult
Feather Pecking, caused by high light conditions at this time of year
Feather Mite
Irritation caused by mites/lice
Diet problems
Cockerel

Are their any new feathers emerging Rich

Richy, my two Wyandottes are moulting out of season, and one of thems kneck looked quite bad for a while, but the feathers are just starting to grow back. I was worried at first, but the chicken man at stonebridge farm, told me it was fairly common to moult out of season.

I've noticed a few new quills appearing on them, They don't seem to fight or squabble much just the boss grabs 'em by the neck every now and then.

Diet problems, well they get layers pellets greens and a handful of wild bird food ( got a load from work going cheap ) they where caught eating clear plastic sheeting  :roll:

Both hens seem fine combs a little paler than the other two and both have tail's at half mast. But the plumage shines beautiful, perhaps it's just early moult.  :?

It could be Rich, keep an eye on them !
