Soybeans?
« on: July 19, 2008, 21:38 »
One of my favourite dishes when I eat out is 'edamame' which is served in places like Wagamamas. The dish is simply some sort of beans, boiled and lightly salted. I really want to grow these beans so I can have them at home - does anyone know what they are? I think they are soybeans but I'm struggling to find anywhere that sells them...do they have an alternative, more popular name? Or does anyone know where I can buy some to plant? (I'm assuming I can actually grow them sucessfully in the UK :) )

They are soybeans.  As far as I know (but don't take my word for it) they aren't grown in the UK successfully for eating, and I think most come from the US, well at least the ones that are in animal feed, yoghurt etc.  I think Edamame is just the Japanese word for them but perhaps they grow in Japan too.
