My hen house and run will be arriving this week (at last) and I have been reading this forum so that I am aware of any problems which may arise.  What is the best breed of hens to have in the garden as we are looking for a couple of girls to lay some quality eggs.  Where can I get good POL's in Scotland?  Thanks for your help.

Hi Debz welcome to the forums    my own reccomendation for a good egg layer would be a hybrid warren very friendly brown hen and a reliable layer

I have common or garden brown hybrids    Best layers though.  I got them from a decent breeder so they were vaccinated and have been in good health.  No problems with them except their wonderlust

Have you checked the poultry suppliers sticky at top of page.  Links to some scottishs  suppliers, one may be near you!
I've had/have warrens - very friendly, brilliant layers at first (2 years) but now have 2 left that are happily eating their heads off and not laying at all (for 10 months now!) but are too healthy just to cull and too small to be worth cooking! - may make very tasty stock tho :shock:
