Hi everyone - we have just become the proud owners of 2 barnvelder hens and they seem a little shell shocked (brought them home yesterday from an auction) and so far are sleeping in their nestbox not on the perch which we lovingly built for them. Will they start to roost on the perch once they are used to our shed or is it normal for them to sleep on straw in a nestbox? These are our first hens so we are just learning. The perch is about 2 foot high and 2 inches wide and they so far have not even looked at it. Many thanks.

The problem you are having is easily solved bribe them with a tenner

No seriously they will find the perch in there own good time they are just settling in to there surroundings.

If you have a spare tenner you could always try it

Hi Momo welcome to the forums,
Like JR says they will probably perch when they settle in, you could always block off the nest box just before they roost so the can't use it.

I too am new to the world of hens, still awaiting for my first chooks, however I have been reading up where- ever on the internet.
