covering for brassicas
« on: June 28, 2008, 10:15 »
I currently use fleece to protect my brassicas from cabbage white etc. But as I live in an exposed site it gets a real battering and quickly tears and fills with holes. I have been looking at enviromesh but it weems very expensive.

Does anyone know of a supply of reasonably priced enviromesh, or have suggestions as to a hard wearing alternative?

Thanks

Apparently. Debris netting is the stuff to use, either google it, or pop onto your nearest buiding site to see if any is going spare

I buy Enviromesh but I've bought it in dribs and drabs as I can afford it but it's good stuff and will keep out all insects and pesky pests if it's secured properly   I tend just to place it over and weigh it down a bit but it does need fixing properly to keep out cabbage whites and the smaller insects

Emnviromesh is a bit of an overkill for brassicas (good idea for carrots though).  I just use an butterfly netting for brassicas.

This type of thing but I get it from Wilkinsons quite cheaply

well it does keep the cabbage whites off and birds don't get fast in it which is good news for the local bird population  :D

i went to a local building site. they gave me a whole roll. 10 foot wde x 100.00 feet it's as good as anything you can buy. best time to see them when they are due to fiinsh the job. yes it does let the light in and you can water without removing it.
