raspberry problem
« on: June 25, 2008, 21:19 »
some of my raspberry fruit is looking decidedly dodgy..hard to describe but its like one patch (less then a 1/4 of the fruit) on the fruit doesnt ripen..its kinda grey but doesnt look mouldy..its like its just not developed..i've tried to eat them and that bit is just hard and gritty feeling

maybe should add the canes are quite old..and my newer ones all seem to be fine..

any ideas :(

thanks

It could just be lack of water to fill the fruit out. Has been quite dry.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

guess it has been dry, (and have to admit havent watered them as strawberries in the same bed and dint want to encourage the ****ing slugs!)  but wouldnt my other canes be affected too..they're in the same bed...

Don't know whether this will cheer you up but some of mine look just like those you are describing. I haven't watered as I thought they were well established. I had a brilliant crop last year and don't remember same problem??!! :(

Cheers HH
Keep digging

I'm only guessing here with the lack of water for swelling the fruit, but if it's the old canes that are affected, maybe they haven't got as good a root system as the new ones.

Some of my raspberry fruit is looking decidedly dodgy, too.  Drought.

Last year was a puddle. The year before some folks rasberries looked like as if burnt down around June/July. they enjoy a bit of shade and shelter.

Might be diff varieties or some more exposed than others or the old ones having something that makes them more prone to environmental stress.
