Digging too early? What sort is it?

I just dug up some of my charlotte potatos and got approx ten spuds per plant and a reasonable size too so I am a very happy girl tonight, as they are the first crop off my newly acquired allotment.  Hubby has had some radishes and the odd strawberry but this will be our first proper harvest for all the family.  :D

They are a rather hungry crop, if ground wasn't well enriched for them, the crop can stay little as Richy suggests, I'd recommend earthing up with well rotted manure or rich compost as slow release fertilisers are unlikely to make much difference at this stage, especially for earlies.

I agree with Gob's, you could try a foliar feed like miracle gro that should help.

The soil on my plots is pretty poor so I tend to use foliar feeds if things look iffy, as a general rule tho' I use grow more or Blood fish bone, chicken manure pellets. Transporting bulky manure's can create a problem for a lot of us plot holders so I'm trying out green manures certainly lighter than muck  and according to HDRA they are a effective replacement.

I seem to have acquired growmore, fish blood bone, and pelleted chicken poo.

I can't work out which one to use when / where (organic isn't an issue for me).

Help!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just dug up my first early  today . International kidney ( commonly known as Jersey Royal). 1 plant - 15 nicely formed small to medium sized spuds. Had some for tea tonight - yummmmmm! :D  Looking forward to many more. Fed with comfrey tea -I swear by it.

There should be instructions on the boxes, FBB is a good slow release fertiliser great for fruit or anything thats sitting around for a long while, I'd use growmore on spuds, etc pelleted poo the same it's all good stuff in it's own right the pelleted poo will actually add a little organic mater to the soil the rest won't. Feed most things but not root crops except potatoes which are a hungry crop. Hoe it in lightly and water well if it don't rain after a day or 2.
