Pesky flies
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:31 »
I know we've talked about flies before but is it me or do there seem to be more than ever at the moment. They're hanging about the chicken run constantly(and every where else) I find myself pooper scooping constantly all around the garden to try and deter the little blighters. Unfortunately one of the girls got a bit of a runny tummy and boy its like flies to s"*t :)

I HATE FLIES

eww.. mind you out in the garden might be ok, as it'll attract them there other than i the house ;) I'll invest in one and see if it makes a difference. I don't like using fly sprays or anything, especially as we have tropical fish, but hate flies.. and love my windows and back door open ;)

I've just ordered one but as its mainly for the flies around the chicken run I'm not sure how far away from it I'm supposed to hang it, does anyone know please?

Oh and by the way Porffor if you go to their website they do sell the sticky paper strip things to hang in your house.

Muntjak....I am sure your idea is totally sound in a strange sort of way ....BUT... perhaps not an idea that I will take up!!!!

Once put a dead pidgeon  in the dustbin....the smell!!!!!!  :(   BUT once the maggots took over the smell went! :pukel:

I'm ordering mine tonight hang it about 7 foot high in as much sun as you can , needs to be as far away from your house a s possible and from memory 8 foot from the hens if you can.

Do they work yes, terrifyingly so !! you wait for a month or so and see how many flies it catch's. Be warned it gets gross towards the end and make sure you follow instructions about topping up with water and disposal.

I've bought a red top fly killer, made it up a few days ago and hung it high in a tree, I'm wondering if I did it right. Is the powder that you mix with the water supposed to  dissolve completely becuause mine didn't and so far its only trapped a few flies, does it take a while to start working?

thanks
