the needle and cotten methord is a old way, the needle held by the end of the cotten over the heads/body of chicks. If it swings in a circle a pullet straight a cock. works on all animals, and humans ?
You can tell if a egg is fertile by using it, fertile eggs it swings in a circle non fertile eggs it does not move at all.
I hatch silkies and never understood vent sexing or the feather thing.
I have seen two small magnets with cotten used and have tried it myself and it worked.

Snowflake, how many chicks have you tried it on?

I am not a big breeder. I hatched 15 through this year they were 100% with needle, I cannot remember how many last year. But friends and family have used it sister in law had 12 chicks given to her needle showed 2 cocks and now the wattles have come she has 2 cocks so hers were 100%.
give it a go you have nothing to loose I put leg rings on the cocks I check 3 times in 2 weeks and it does not change? how! why! I dont know dont understand the tecy bits
but works for me.
