2 options to get rid of knot weed

option 1 chemicals and it takes a long time(years)
option 2 cover the lot with 200mm of concrete
feed the soil not the plants

Glyphosate so that's how it's spelt and I have been calling it Glysophate  .

Yorkie1 I would be most grateful if you could ask your friend for details on exactly what he did. how much he injected, where exactly he injected it, was it in every stem on the rhizome and how often/many times he injected.

Thanks to the link kindly supplied by SalJ1980 I will be ordering 6 liters of the stuff. Being a heroin addict** I have a large number of hypodermics to spare and this concept of getting rid of them sounds safer and more fruitful.

** Only kidding. My friends dog has diebetes and he has to inject her every day, so could get needles off him to use.

  Dave.

I think great care should be taken doing that Dave.  Size of kneedle/syringe could be a critical safety freature.  You many find an specialist needs to do that procedure.  Research it well please !!!!

Johnny Norfolk and hotterotter. Can we put our little differences down to misunderstandings by all parties and start again. We are all new to what seems to me a very nice and helpful forum and our exchanges are not fair on the good folks here.

 Here's my hand, here's my heart as we say round here. (best emoticom I could find).

Shaun, from what I have read I don't think even 200mm of concrete would stop the stuff.
Aunt sally I will of course find out all I can about injecting before attempting it, if that's what I decide to do. It is not something you could do willy nilly and using needles has to be done with great care.

Heres the links.

http://www.organicgardening.org.uk/organicweeds/weed_information/weed.php?id=11

At the bottom of the page there was site which was reccomended who says it works with local to get rid of the stuff.

http://www.cdae.co.uk

Sorry if its not any good, oh and if this post needs deleting because of advertising sorry i don't know the rules on this.
Good luck getting rid of it, sounds nasty. :(

I'll see what I can find out, and will post a reply onto this thread if I have any success.  I've never met the person who did the work - he was a contact of a committee member - nor did I witness him doing the work.

Pine resin from freshly barked chipped pine trees layered on top seems to kill off most things. It is natural too.
If it rots compost it
If it burns burn it
If it is chocolate eat it

Hi,
I got a book from the library and theres a section on weed control.

This is what it says about knotweed:

Control;
Cut down every 2 weeks through growing season, for 10 years or more.

Pull up stems from base when mature in early and midsummer, for at least 5 years.

What a nightmare this would be if you had it.
This is the organic way of doing it, of course there's always weedkillers.

Good morning Jamie!  Did you know you've just replied to a thread that's nearly 3 years old?  :D

I should imagine his knotweed has either gone, or he's still trying to get rid of it, or if he had any sense, he's moved far away!
