bare ground under a loganberry bush

Greetings fellow allotmenteers from a delightfully soggy Scunthorpe!

I was given a rambling loganberry which I've trained up a support and underplanted with some nice dafs.

Now those have died off and the weed's are back, has anyone got suggestions for what I could cover the ground with to suppress the weeds?

Ideally something that's low growing and could cohabit with the dafs.
I expect that grass seed might be the easiest solution - any bright ideas welcome!

Hi Vicky.

Would some sort of mulch be appropriate ?

Maybe wood chippings or pea gravel ? the daffs should grow through it and it'll keep the soil moist. Any weeds will be severely hampered.
