3 days ago Mabel hadn't laid an egg for 2 days- then she popped one out today -perfectly formed with a hard shell. But it was REALLY small. About the same size as a quail egg-maybe a bit smaller .  My mum said  that small eggs, usually mean the end of thier egg laying careers- is she right?

Not always. I have had the odd small egg but it's just been a blip and soon laid normal sized eggs.

I think someone said recently on this forum that if you crack it it won't have any yolk, but I might be wrong  :shock:

worry not we had one the same ....got 17 eggs today from 19 birds so no worries here

That was in reply to one of my girls' tiny eggs. I cracked it and there was just a pinprick of yellow in it.
