HelloI wonderd if it is possible to start Asparagus off in a large pot, then transfer them to the allotment when they have 'got going'

I suppose so, afterall that's what you have to do when growing from seed.

I assume we are talking about crowns, which really should be in & sprouting by now. Is there any particular reason why they can't go straight in?

I've started seeds off in pots this year and have just transplanted them into 8 inch pots where they will stay until next spring. Then they should be big enough to go in the ground. No harvesting until 2011 though.

The patience is worth it. I did the same 6 years ago. Now it's asparagus every other meal & have to give it away.

Maybe 39 crowns was a bit much for two of us!
