Tomatoes and night temperatures
« on: May 16, 2008, 15:14 »
Whilst we are all thinking of tomatoes, I have 4 plants outside at the mo. 2 in ahnging baskets and 2 in a growbag and I've spotted that Monday night its going to drop to 5degrees C, is there anyway i can keep them warm overnight? I have a cheap bit of fleece from wilkos but I don't know how much good it would really be. Thanks

Toms can actually take some cool temps. They just can't take frost or anything lower than freezing (0C/32F). Fleece would keep all potential frost off and enclose a bit of warmth. If you have it, double fleece them and you'll all sleep peacefully.

over here, the locals tend to put 2 roof tiles either side of the plant in an 'A' shape

Not as expensive as fleece - as long as you've got tiles - but anything that creates a barrier should work
